April 23 – May 1, 2026
I joined historian Paco Álvarez and tour operator Iván Lacasa Cartagena on a whirlwind exploration of Spain’s most spectacular Roman sites. We drove on the first day to Baelo Claudia by the Strait of Gibraltar.

The following day found us in Italica, Hadrian’s hometown and the oldest Roman city in Spain. The highlight here was the colossal amphitheater, used as a filming location for HBO’s Game of Thrones.

We made our way to Cordoba, where we enjoyed a tour of the spectacular mosque-cathedral.

The fourth day was spent at Merida, Spain’s best-preserved Roman city.

Onward, then, to Segovia, and that city’s iconic aqueduct.

At Zaragoza, on day 6, we enjoyed an authentic Roman dinner. I was convinced to don a toga for the occasion.

The following day, we explored the spectacular – and largely subterranean – ruins of Tarragona.

A tour of Sagrada Familia was the culmination of our final day in Barcelona.

All in all, a great trip! I look forward to working with Paco and Iván again, and hope – as always – to see the travelers on future tours.
